Summer is getting very hot and maybe in late August or September high temperature could last together with rain. This means: water deficit now and best conditions for olive fly attacks. So we decided to become familiar with kaolin.
We dissolve this fine white clay coming from rocks into water, then we spray this solution on the trees: a thin white layer coats them and it seems it has several benefits: the olive fly doesn't recognize its beloved fruits, temperature stays lower, oil properties improve and so on.
Dosage of kaolin; adjustement of the noozles; pressure; speed of the tractor: these are all variables we've to set to achieve the best coating. Thanks to our agronomist Giuseppe Colantoni and mr. Domenico Bucca from Clay&Clay company this work is easier and after few attemps the result is good.
